Lectures and Talks

  • The American Jerusalem Academy for Contemporary Judaic Studies (AJA), an annual series of endowed talks and events. Recent topics have included Before and After Kristallnacht: German Jewish Refugees in the United States, presented by Professor Judith Gerson from Rutgers University, and Spirit and Conscience: What Abraham Joshua Heschel Has to Teach Us Today, presented by Rabbi Gordon Tucker.
  • Congregation Anshe Emeth Legacy Endowment Lecture Series. A recent installment in this series was Pepper, Silk and Ivory: The Exotic Jews of China, Japan and India, presented by Rabbi Marvin Tokayer.
  • Congregation Anshe Emeth Legacy Endowment Scholar-in-Residence Shabbat. A recent guest was Judy Klitsner from the Pardes Institute in Israel, whose topic was Biblical Men and Women: The Inside Story.
  • The annual Louis Rockoff and Jenny and Joseph Lieberman Lectures, delivered by Rabbi Yakov Hilsenrath, Rabbi Emeritus of HPCT-CAE. A recent topic was The Jewish Stimulus Package: Spiritual, Cultural and Financial.
  • The annual Dr. Julius and Ethel Mintz Scholar-in-Residence Shabbat. A recent guest was Rabbi Daniel Nevins, Dean of the Rabbinical School at JTS, who explored Jewish morals, ethics, mitzvot and law.
  • The annual Ellen M. Egger Memorial Lecture. A recent topic was The Dead Sea Scrolls at Sixty, presented by Professor Gary A. Rendsburg, chair of the Department of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University.

Classes

  • The Classic Prophets – led by Rabbi Malomet every Monday at lunch time.
  • Torah on Tuesday – dilemmas and challenges of Jewish ethical living, led by Rabbi Malomet.
  • How to Listen to and Chant the Torah or Haftarah – the art of cantillation.
  • Shabbat Afternoon Torah Study – lively group discussions of Chumash and Rashi.
  • Beginner and Intermediate Hebrew – reading, writing and conversational Hebrew taught in ulpan style.
  • Passover Workshop - insights and ideas to enrich your next seder.
